The Kennedy Center opened a new section this past September called The REACH. It has its own separate building with program offerings and outdoor space featuring public art and performances during warmer weather.
For the first time, they celebrated the Lunar New Year with a beautiful display of handmade winter lanterns. The three of us decided to check it out on the last night of the display, February 2. It was packed! I guess we weren't the only people who didn't care about this year's Super Bowl.
It was really beautiful to behold but I have to say that it was tough to be in the moment and/or appreciate it fully because of the stop-start lines and waiting for everyone and their brother to take their selfies/pictures. Ugh. It was especially hard to dodge slow pokes on the narrow paths with a stroller. So many people were there with their kids and yet, there were plenty of people who were totally clueless and not helpful in making way for people like us. I definitely had the thought that it would've been easier with just Evan and me. AJ did enjoy the lights, colors, and people though. It would've been a shame for her to miss out.
My dad, AJ, and I are all Year of the Dog!
Evan is Year of the Pig!
